Product Engineer - Automotive
PRODUCT ENGINEER
Lead Product Engineer Summary:
The Product Engineer will participate in setting the design direction on new programs. We are looking for a hands-on engineer who is not afraid to dig in, solve problems, and develop cutting edge technology. The Product Engineer will be working on vehicles before they are launched as the final product. It is necessary to have excellent problem problem-solving skills as well as customer service. They will monitor key program engineering milestones to ensure overall program success.
Responsibilities:
- Designs and develops new products within established design criteria guidelines.
- Develops CAD generated solid models and engineering drawings. Provides CAD data to perform FEA, mold flow evaluations, and to develop proof of principle models to verify design concepts.
- Procures product and capital costs as required.
- Coordinates the testing of existing and new products to validate FMVSS and customer requirements.
- Searches continuously for new processes and vendors that will enhance products, improve quality, and reduce costs.
- Applies value-added practices to current products, processes, methods, and materials to identify opportunities for cost/quality improvements.
- Supports quality and environmental systems and APQP standards in design engineering functions.
- Coordinates cross-functional team activities between engineering and other departments.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1-3 years directly related design experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education/accepted.
- Efficient in either Ideas or Catia v 5/6 design software
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and advanced Excel; knowledgeable in ,) andknowledgeable with AS400 Manufacturing System
- Excellent written and verbal/interpersonal communication skills with all levels in the organization.
- High level organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast paced environment; prior manufacturing experience preferred (heavy truck or automotive a plus).
- Desire to be part of a growth business and operate in an ever-changing environment.
- Must be proficient in reading and interpreting Engineering drawings.
- Must have practical experience with common measuring devices.
- Must be a team player and a leader with ability to promote collaboration and facilitating activities to completion.
- Requires strong organizational and technical skills.
- Must have excellent communication skills in English – both written and oral.
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret business technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
