Description:
Responsible for developing, coordinating, directing and implementing Quality Assurance functions to verify that all raw materials, work in progress and finished product conform to requirements.

Managing the QA function, technical staff conduction testing.

This position interfaces with Purchasing, Packaging, R&D, Customer Service, Customers, Quality Control, Production and Suppliers.

Position Reports to: Chief Technology Officer.

This position has 5 direct reports (Senior Microbiologist, QA Specialist and 3 QA Technicians).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the receipt, inspection and reporting of raw materials (Ingredients and Packaging).

Develop and implement processes to inspect and test all raw materials, work in progress and Finished Products.

Determine group budget requirements and manage group operations within budget.

Manage the daily activities of the Quality Assurance Technicians.

Develop, implement and oversee execution of procedures to test raw materials, work in progress and Finished Products in a timely cost effective manner.

Develop and implement new testing procedures to meet customer, regulatory agency and department requirements.

Research and purchase equipment /instruments to increase laboratory testing capabilities to meet customer, regulatory agency and department requirements.

Conduct internal audits to verify effectiveness of QA systems.

Food safety audits.

Audit suppliers to ensure compliance with Company and Microbiological standards.

Supplier Corrective Action Reports.

Interface with R&D to define functional requirements for ingredients and develop and document test criteria for ingredients.

Analytical testing on raw materials and Finished products.

Physical testing of finished product at time of production and during shelf life.

Microbiological testing on equipment, raw materials and Finished Products.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS/BA in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or related discipline.

5-7 year’s experience.

Previous supervisory responsibility required.
